Festivals Set to Assist Residents Still Seeking Help
to Rebuild and Recover from Ike
For Galveston County residents who were still on the road to recovery, Saturday, February 20 was the date to be at The Mall of the Mainland in Texas City for the Community Resource and Information Festival.A host of disaster recovery vendors were on hand at this free event hosted by several area non-profitagencies in the area.
Equipped to assist and answer questions about home rehabilitation, rental assistance, housing programs, legal services, job placement and training, utility assistance and so much more was G.R.A.C.E. Community Services, Catholic Charities, Gulf Coast Centers, City of Galveston Recovers, Galveston County Housing Assistance Program, ICNA Relief, V-Family, Inc, Mainland Children Partnership
and 40 plus vendors.
The Community Resource Festival provided a Free Kidz Zone designed to
encourage children ages 6 to 16 to play and have fun via the Wii Box, and the Krunk Session while learning the importance of preparing, planning and positioning themselves on how to deal with life’s trauma’s and disastrous situations.
The Resource Festival host, G.R.A.C.E. Community Services, was on site wth many 40 additional vendors to assist Hurricane Ike survivors to join in a partnership with disaster case managers who assess disaster-related needs, develop long-term recovery plans, and connect survivors to available resources in the community.G.R.A.C.E. Community Services has partnered withLutheran Social
Services (LSS) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to provide Disaster Case Management Services to ten county areas, including Hardin, Jefferson and Orange, under a program entitled Texas RISE (Recovery for Ike Survivors Enterprise). The event was such a success -- The Second Community Resource and Information Festival is slated for Saturday, April 24 and is free and open to the public.
